WHAT CAN WE DO AS EDUCATORS?

As the practices and art of teaching starts to move forward in diversity, Social Justice and Indigenous Ways of Knowing, it is important to firstly address ourselves as educators. Who we are and the inherent biases that we carry must be explored as part of our teaching journey.  We may unknowingly continue oppression in our actions and words towards one another as peers and towards students. As we become role models for students, we must strive to check our biases to wreck them to gain understanding, empathy and knowledge of those different from us.

HOW CAN WE ADDRESS OUR BIASES?

The website contains activities that you can do on your own or as a group with resources.  Think of these activities as potentials for future professional development within school staff and administrators. They are meant to act as the initial steps in checking our biases and moving forward in reconciliation to Indigenous peoples. Many of the activities are from Indigenous cultures and ways of knowing.
